The School of Social Work, located in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Fayetteville State University, prepares students to become competent social work professionals at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The primary goals of the School of Social Work are to promote lifelong learning and to enhance the well-being of individuals, children and families residing in rural, urban, and military communities throughout North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The School is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership, and faculty strive to alleviate poverty and oppression and to advance social and economic justice in a multicultural and global context. Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Associate Dean is the School of Social Work’s chief academic officer for internal and external affairs. The position works collaboratively with the School’s faculty, staff, students, university administration, alumni, donors, and community partners. In collaboration with the Dean for the CHSS, administration, and faculty, the Associate Dean provides strategic leadership to foster and maintain the academic excellence of the BSW, MSW, and Certificate programs. The Associate Dean position is a 12-month appointment. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of CHSS and is a member of the CHSS leadership team. Under the general direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean is responsible for planning, operations, and resource management for the School to ensure the smooth execution of administrative, instructional, service, and research functions. Duties include leadership in personnel, budgets, and administration. The following key areas are included: Strategic Leadership:
Utilizes effective communication to articulate the School’s vision, mission, goals, objectives, and accomplishments to diverse constituencies; promotes partnerships and donor/alumni development; recruits and supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. Academic Innovation and Quality:
Ensures delivery of outstanding BSW, MSW, and Certificate programs; oversees CSWE accreditation processes. Scholarship and Faculty Development:
Promotes rigorous research, supports new initiatives and funding, and nurtures a diverse faculty; advances teaching, service, and outreach locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. Management:
Manages education programs and resources to achieve the School’s and University’s missions; supports enrollment, retention, and graduation goals; fosters relationships with alumni and partners and supports fundraising. External and University Relations:
Builds national connections with other social work programs and promotes community partnerships; collaborates with university departments to promote excellence in teaching, service, and research. Minimum Education and Experience:
MSW from a CSWE-accredited program with two years of post-master’s practice experience in direct and/or macro practice; PhD or DSW in Social Work or related field. A record of excellence in teaching, research, and service equivalent to the rank of a tenured Associate Professor or full Professor. Demonstrated success in securing funding for research or academic programs and in academic administrative leadership. Experience with accreditation, financial management, and program development is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
