Overview The Hospital Human Resources Director (HRD) is responsible for the strategic workforce plan and day-to-day HR operations within a hospital. The HRD focuses on acquisition, development, and culture to support Tenet’s goal of becoming the best place to work in health care. The HRD collaborates with hospital leadership to manage people metrics to achieve low turnover, controlled SWB expenses, high employee engagement, high-quality patient care, and excellent experiences for patients, visitors, physicians, and employees.
Position Summary The HRD oversees HR strategy, programs, and initiatives aligned with the hospital business plan. Responsible for delivering core HR services (recruiting, employee relations, employee health/safety, learning/development, regulatory compliance) and managing HR operations, labor/benefits, and workforce planning. Ensures a high-performance culture that supports quality patient care and patient experience.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute HR strategies, programs, and initiatives aligned with hospital business plans.
Foster a high-performance culture to deliver high quality patient care and excellent patient experience.
Serve as a strategic business partner and advisor to hospital leadership; provide problem solving and leadership development support.
Deliver core HR services: recruiting, employee relations, employee health and safety, learning and development, and HR regulatory compliance.
Drive HR operations efficiency: HR enterprise services, salary/benefits oversight, staffing, labor standards, and HR metrics.
Design and implement workforce plans over 1–3 and 3–7 year horizons based on local and national trends.
Oversee day-to-day operations to minimize turnover, maximize retention, and ensure safe workplace.
Ensure compliance with HR regulatory requirements, employment law, Joint Commission HR standards; respond to EEO complaints and coordinate investigations as needed.
Lead strategic workforce planning, talent mapping, succession planning, and leadership development programs.
Collaborate with compensation, benefits, and legal/ethics to ensure compliant policies and audits (e.g., Joint Commission, internal audits).
Support Tenet-wide leadership development initiatives and build organizational capability and engagement.
Qualifications and Attributes
5–7 years in a top HR leadership position; hospital experience required.
Demonstrated track record of high organizational performance and employee engagement.
Strategic thinker with strong operational focus, organizational development, and communication skills.
Ability to lead, coach, and develop talent; strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Education: BS in Business, HR Management or related field recommended; Master’s degree or SPHR preferred.
Travel: Limited travel.
Legal and Compliance Tenet complies with federal, state, and local vaccination laws. If offered a position that requires vaccination, proof of vaccination or exemption approval may be required, followed by regular testing if applicable.
