Overview
Telecommunications Network System Administrator I, II, III or Senior. One position is available and will be filled at one of four job grades: Telecommunications Network System Administrator I (T3), Telecommunications Network System Administrator II (T4), Telecommunications Network System Administrator III (T5), or Senior Telecommunications Network System Administrator (T6). The decision will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire. There is one position available and this description notes the hiring grades and related compensation ranges where applicable. Responsibilities
Comm Center Specific Responsibilities Monitor the Telecom Network Management System for alarm conditions and report alarms to appropriate parties. Perform Telenium/NMS database adds, moves, and changes for existing and new network elements. Administer Nokia MPLS client systems and configurations. Work with Comm Center and field telecom technicians to troubleshoot network communications. Assist Telecom Engineering with network design and documentation. Perform software upgrades on network elements. Maintain and administer Infoblox IPAM database, subnetting, and IP assignments. Maintain RADIUS (Microsoft Server OS) database. Document network topology for reference and troubleshooting. Utilize CLI for network configuration and diagnostics. Coordinate with field technicians and supervisors for installation and maintenance activities. Collaborate on relay protection circuit support and ensure compliance with NERC/FERC regulations. Because Tri-State is an electric utility with continuous service obligations to its customers, regular, reliable, and predictable performance of the essential functions is an essential function of the job. Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job. Education/Training and Experience: The equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology with advanced studies in telecommunications, LAN/WAN theory, and fiber optics. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Must be capable of satisfactorily interpreting electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and control logic. Knowledge of first aid and safety requirements peculiar to the electrical utility industry. Proficiency in IP routing and switching. Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Perl, SQL/MySQL 8. Familiarity with SNMP, TL1, SMTP protocols. Experience with Nokia Routers (SR/SAR) and timing synchronization in packet-switched networks. Ability to interpret network diagrams and control logic. Experience and knowledge of SONET and TDM systems. Experience and knowledge of label distribution protocols, Layer 2 VPNs, and link state routing protocols. Experience: Eight (8) or more years of practical experience and/or knowledge in maintenance of telecommunication systems; Three (3) years or the equivalent knowledge of fiber optic systems and microwave radio with associated multiplexers and channel banks; Two (2) years or the equivalent knowledge of data networks including TCP/IP protocol; One (1) year of practical experience in the operation of a network control center. Other: Willingness to work in or around high voltage peculiar to the electrical utility industry. Willingness to travel up to 25 percent of working time, including overnight travel. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must reside within a 60 minute response time of the base location. Must have satisfactory work record. Willingness to be on call on a 24‑hour basis. Must be able to demonstrate that he or she can perform all of the essential functions of the position. Desired Job Qualifications: Electrical utility experience is desirable. Experience with Nokia NRS 1/2 certifications. Familiarity with relay protection circuits and utility-grade networking. Advanced studies in IP networking, Linux systems, and database management. SUGGESTED CERTIFICATIONS: Cisco CCNA or CCNP; CompTIA Network+ Nokia NRS I/II; Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA); Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-1 or LPIC-2). Note: The above requirements describe the experience and education qualifications for the Senior Telecommunications Network System Administrator.
