Overview
Hydrosat is seeking a seasoned mechanical engineer to join our hardware development team. This role focuses on the design, analysis, and prototyping of mechanical systems for space-based payloads and other flight hardware. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in mechanical design for space applications and a passion for seeing hardware through from concept to first article.
Responsibilities
Develop and refine mechanical requirements for space payloads and flight hardware
Lead mechanical design efforts, including structural, thermal, and vibration analysis
Oversee prototype development, lab testing, and qualification of flight hardware
Collaborate with systems engineering and cross-disciplinary teams (electrical, thermal, optical, etc.) to ensure integrated design performance
Prepare mechanical drawings and manage configuration control of released designs
Conduct trade studies and present design review materials to internal and external stakeholders
Support environmental testing and transition to manufacturing
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; Master’s preferred
10+ years of experience in mechanical design for space systems or high-reliability environments
Proficiency in CAD and analysis tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS)
Experience with space environmental testing (thermal, vibration, thermal vacuum)
Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME Y14.5 (Dimensioning and Tolerancing), GSFC-STD-7000 (General Environmental Verification Standard for spaceflight hardware), and NASA-STD-5001B (Structural Design and Verification)
Strong documentation and communication skills
Preferred Experience
Background in opto-mechanical systems, RF payloads, or deployable mechanisms
Experience with prototype fabrication and hands-on testing
Familiarity with spaceflight hardware lifecycle from concept through flight qualification
