The Liberal Studies Core provides a global and interdisciplinary foundation for nearly 100 NYU majors. The Global Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts is a global studies major grounded in the spatial, conceptual, and temporal understandings of a highly interconnected world, with a program of study distinguished by experiential learning, study away, and independent research focused in an interdisciplinary concentration. Small, seminar-style classes and close faculty–student interaction offer students the benefits of a liberal arts college within a large urban research university. We seek candidates who can contribute research, teaching, and service to the intellectual diversity and excellence of Liberal Studies and NYU. Position and Field
ARTS & CULTURES Qualifications and specialization
PhD in the humanities, broadly conceived (e.g., Classics, English, Comparative Literature, Global Literature, Art History including Museum Studies, Anthropology with a Humanistic Focus, Archaeology, Indigenous Studies, Music, or related fields). Specialization in the Ancient World or the Global Middle Ages and Renaissance, with a preferred focus on premodern digital humanities, archival practices, or the arts of Asia. Ability to teach with a global, interdisciplinary, and intersectional focus in the Arts and Cultures sequence of the Core Curriculum, which covers literature as well as visual, sonic, and/or performance arts produced around the world, including in underrepresented areas from antiquity to early modern times. Minimum qualifications: PhD by appointment; three years of college-level teaching experience; demonstrated excellence in teaching. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging, and to interdisciplinarity, intersectionality, and global perspectives in teaching. Publications and evidence of outstanding scholarship and relevant professional activity encouraged. Responsibilities
Visiting Clinical Faculty teach three classes per semester, advise undergraduates, and may contribute service to Liberal Studies and to the University. Salary and terms
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 – $80,000. NYU considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, work experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and market considerations when extending an offer. Application instructions
