Perinatal Surg Technologist - $10K SIGN ON BONUS at Westchester Medical Center Health Network Job Summary: The Perinatal Surgical Technologist performs scrub techniques and patient care as a member of the Obstetrics surgical care team under the direction of the Physician or Registered Nurse. This role provides the surgical team with instruments, sutures, specialized equipment and materials needed to perform surgery while maintaining strict aseptic technique. They prepare patients, operating rooms, labor and delivery suites, and recovery areas for pending obstetric surgical and delivery procedures. Responsibilities

Perform pre-surgical/pre-delivery scrub procedures and don gown, gloves and PPE as needed. Gather, check and open supplies and equipment needed for the surgical/delivery procedure. Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure. Perform initial instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator; assist with gowning and gloving. Prepare the patient for surgery/delivery, including verification of patient/consent, skin prep, draping, and establishing the sterile field. Participate in the surgical site and patient verification during the time-out procedure. Prepare and anticipate additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for the procedure/delivery; anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies. Pass medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions as directed; handle retractors or instruments as required. Maintain sterile technique; assist with suctioning and instrumentation as directed; ensure proper counts before incision and before closure. Prepare sterile dressings and immobilization devices as needed; prepare and pass off specimens following procedures. Assist with room turnover and keep accurate records during the procedure. Transport the patient to and from the operating/delivery room; assist with terminal cleaning and preparation of the OR/LDR for the next case. Participate in care of obstetrical and newborn patients as needed and support maternal/newborn safety and policy adherence. Maintain and develop competencies through annual renewal and ongoing education; participate in debriefing and quality improvement activities. Qualifications/Requirements

Experience: 1 to 2 years of surgical technologist experience in the operating room is preferred. Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree in Operating Technology preferred. Licenses / Certifications: Completion of a nationally accredited surgical technologist program and possession of a certified surgical technologist credential, or an approved equivalent path as specified by the applicable credentialing organization.
