Instructor or Assistant Professor of Practice in Birth - Kindergarten - 002414 at Western Carolina University (WCU). The Birth-Kindergarten Program is online and housed in the Department of Human Services within the College of Education and Allied Professions. Position Summary
The Birth-Kindergarten Program (online) is situated in the Department of Human Services. The position is a 9-month, fixed-term appointment at the rank of Instructor (masters degree) or Assistant Professor of Practice (terminal degree). Rank will be determined at hire. Anticipated start January 2026. Duties and Responsibilities
Teach, supervise, and advise students in the Birth-Kindergarten Online Program (BK Online). Maintain a 4/4 teaching load per Fall and Spring semesters (online; 80%), with priority for internship courses; option to teach in the summer. Share program administrative responsibilities and provide service to the department, college, and university (approximately 20%). Develop and deliver online courses within the BK Program. Supervise interns and coordinate with clinical educators. Mentor and advise students. Maintain currency in the academic discipline through continuing education, program activities, and involvement in professional organizations at the state, regional, and/or national levels. Collaborate with faculty and staff in the BK Program and across the institution. Carry out other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in early childhood education, early childhood special education, child development, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Expertise in working with interns and young children birth-kindergarten. Eligibility for North Carolina licensure. Ability to live within reasonable proximity to the university for service expectations. Previous teaching experience and a record of community/public engagement. Preferred Qualifications
PhD in early childhood education, early childhood special education, child development, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Experience teaching in a classroom (any Birth-Kindergarten grade level). Experience teaching and working with interns in preschool and kindergarten settings. Experience with edTPA portfolio, teaching Birth-Kindergarten courses, and advising students. Experience with online instruction and development of online courses. Position Type
