TEKsystems c/o Allegis Group
Critical Environment Program Manger
TEKsystems c/o Allegis Group, Washington, District of Columbia, us, 20022
Overview
TEKsystems is seeking a Critical Environments Program Manager for a major technology client that’s expanding their datacenter footprint across the USA. This role is remote (working from home) on a day-to-day basis but requires occasional travel to datacenter sites around Northern VA (e.g., Manassas, Leesburg, Sterling, and Ashburn). Travel is expected roughly once every two weeks to various sites. Required Skills
Experience in critical facilities (24x7x365) project management with construction focus (ideally datacenter experience). Background as a practicing mechanical or electrical engineer – must be able to review MEP designs and anticipate problems. Experience delivering facilities program management initiatives, managing suppliers, stakeholders, etc. Team Overview
This role supports our client’s Cloud/AI Regional & New Site Programs under the leadership of the Director of Datacenter. The team is responsible for delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies that power the client’s dedicated online services. Their mission is to ensure seamless integration of new datacenter sites into operations, with a focus on safety, security, efficiency, and sustainability. Role Purpose
The Critical Environments PM acts as the operational voice during the lifecycle of new datacenter builds—from site selection through commissioning and turnover. This person ensures operational readiness, drives continuous improvement, and leads cross-functional collaboration to optimize datacenter performance and end-user experience. The day-to-day involves coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and program management software to ensure needed tasks are delivered. The resource will manage suppliers/vendors, and advocate for the operations team at every instance. The candidate MUST also have the ability to review construction designs and draw insights from the plans that help them make decisions for the betterment of the operations team. Experience with large-scale construction design is not negotiable for this role. Travel
Resource may be asked to visit sites for major milestone completion. This would involve traveling to highly secure and sensitive sites to coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders to kickstart next phases and/or address issues together. This role is opened because the team has been seeking additional technical people to assist with the growing capacity. The team is currently short staffed. Key Responsibilities
Represent Critical Facilities and Field Operations in new site development, ensuring operational requirements are embedded from design through turnover. Lead onboarding processes for new facilities, including documentation review and training coordination. Drive improvements in existing datacenter operations through retrofit and efficiency projects. Collaborate with engineering, regional directors, and operations managers to align procedures and standards. Manage escalations and ensure timely resolution to minimize service delivery impact. Capture and apply lessons learned to improve future site launches and operational practices. Qualifications
3+ years in critical facilities (24x7x365) project management with construction focus. Data centers, nuclear plants, submarines, hospitals, powerplants, high security facilities. 5+ years practicing electrical and/or mechanical engineering in a construction environment. Candidates must be able to see a design and foresee potential problems for implementing said design (e.g., a cable that is too long will not be able to be properly stored). Must help anticipate and address problems for the operations team. Need to be an engineer first, PM second. The technical part of this role is more important than PM. Additional acceptable experience: HVAC. Should have mechanical or electrical engineering focus. ME certifications are nice-to-have. 3+ years in a similar Program/Construction Management role. Demonstrated ability to deliver construction program management initiatives. Demonstrated ability to manage suppliers and internal stakeholders. Ideally, candidate has moved from a technical engineering background into management. Best Qualifications
MEP/CE (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) / (construction engineering) demonstrated experience. DEEP experience in data center design, construction, and transformation programs. Strong experience in electrical and/or mechanical engineering. Experience in coordinating with suppliers/vendors and partner organizations on construction-related projects. Financial acumen in budgeting and forecasting in relation to program management. Familiarity with IT service operations (ITIL, MOF, SLA/OLA). Additional Skills & Qualifications
