This position works within our Youth and Family Division. Provides psychological services to Court involved youths. Primary duties involve psychological evaluations, mental health assessments, risk assessments and emergency assessments to youth, and consultation to youths' families and Court professional staff. Communicates evaluation results and recommendations to clients and their caregivers. Prepares written reports of test results which includes psychological interpretations, diagnoses, and recommendations for review. Administers, scores, and interprets a variety of objective psychological tests (intelligence, achievements, interests, and personalities) and projective techniques for diagnostic purposes. May occasionally lead trainings with JDRDC or CSB staff. May supervise subordinate personnel. Note:

Analyzes the results of tests, interviews, and obtains social histories of the individual; Submits psychological evaluations to the Court and makes recommendations regarding the individual\'s risk factors, mental status, competency and level of care needed; Participates in staff conferences and conducts training programs into the psychological aspects of juvenile delinquency; Conducts comprehensive clinical evaluations, comprehensive risk assessment and written reports; Provide psychoeducation regarding treatment needs, risk assessment, and other clinical information to client and parties involved in the involuntary detention process. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (The knowledge, skills and abilities listed in this specification are representative of the class but are not an all-inclusive list.) Knowledge of the methods, principles and practices of conducting and evaluating psychological tests and measurements; Knowledge of psychotherapy and application of treatment to a variety of clinical diagnoses; Knowledge of the applicability of these tests and measurements to the clinical diagnosis of the problems of youth and adults with mental illness; Knowledge of sources of information and current literature and research in psychology; Knowledge of fundamental types and problems of mental illness and abnormal behavior; Knowledge of theories and principles of psychology, human growth and development, normal and abnormal personality development, learning theory, interviewing techniques, and personality, intelligence, interest and aptitude measurements; Knowledge of and the ability to apply psychological principles and methods in the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and amelioration of psychological problems and mental conditions; Knowledge of applicable state laws and regulations pertaining to involuntary treatment of adults and juveniles in Virginia; Ability to plan, organize, and conduct a psychological testing program for youth and adults with mental illness; Ability to plan, organize, and conduct a psychological evaluation, forensic interview, and risk assessment; Ability to make recommendations based on tests and interpretations; Ability to establish rapport with clients and other parties involved with the criminal justice system; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other professional staff and the public. Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from an accredited college or university. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSURES REQUIRED: Possession of a current license to practice as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. CPR/First Aid (Required within 3 months). NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. TB screening on hire and annually thereafter. Emergency/essential services personnel. Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies. Licensed providers may not opt out of being a Medicare provider. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Current certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Experience working with children and adolescents Experience providing youth psychological evaluations, competency to stand trial evaluations, and mental health assessments to courts for court-involved youth and their families PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to drive to other locations; use keyboard-driven equipment; communicate clearly; lift up to 10 lbs; and make clinical observations.
