$150k–$230k + meaningful equity (0.5%–2%) Embark On Talent is working alongside several stealth-backed, high-growth startups in San Francisco and New York City, each building products at the intersection of AI, healthcare, infrastructure, and enterprise software. We are looking to connect with outstanding backend, fullstack, and frontend engineers who are excited to become founding hires. What you’ll do
Own 0→1 builds: design, architect, and ship production systems from scratch (infra, APIs, orchestration, observability, SLAs). Go end-to-end: ship backend-heavy features while collaborating across the stack (React/Next.js/Tailwind + modern infra). Embed with customers: join design partner calls, translate integration or workflow pain points into technical solutions, and see them through to production. Work with frontier AI models: from large language models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Claude) to agentic systems and beyond. Lay cultural foundations: define engineering best practices, help recruit the next hires, and set the tone for technical excellence in the company. What will set you up for success
Extensive background as a backend, fullstack, or frontend engineer in B2B SaaS, devtools, fintech, AI, or healthcare tech. Strong fluency in Python and/or Node.js, with frontend exposure in React/TypeScript/Next.js. Proven record of building and shipping production-grade APIs, orchestration systems, or distributed workflows. Familiarity with infra-level challenges: authentication, event-driven systems, queueing, scaling to reliability. Comfort being the first or early engineering hire: pragmatic about trade-offs, fast-moving, and excited to own outcomes directly. Strong communication skills, including experience working with customers or non-technical stakeholders. Excited by in-person, collaborative work in San Francisco or New York City (3–4 days/week in office). Additional points
