Salary: The previously determined rate for this position is $57.00. The final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

Position Summary The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and aims to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and nursing excellence into clinical practice. The Staff Nurse I uses professional practice models and current standards of practice to provide quality patient care as measured by nursing quality standards and accrediting bodies. The Staff Nurse I engages with patients and families to advocate for the patient, develops educational plans, and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective care. The Staff Nurse I participates in organizational and shared leadership activities and supports unit goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.

Shares information and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care.

Verifies and implements orders from physicians and other providers, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting in the electronic medical record.

Engages with patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.

Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.

Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback.

Advocates for patients, families, and communities, and for the nursing profession.

Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care.

Assumes the role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.

Collaborates with other nurses to identify and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.

Serves as a preceptor and/or resource to nursing, support staff, and students.

Takes responsibility for ongoing professional growth by identifying learning needs and pursuing development opportunities.

Other duties as assigned and participation in special projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.

Current (AHA) ACLS/BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications.

3 - 5 years relevant Level II or higher NICU experience including neonatal stabilization and resuscitation at the time of infant delivery.

Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.

Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.

Preferred Qualifications

Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.

IBCLC or CLC certification.

STABLE Program completion.

BSN degree.
