A Day in the Life Our Medtronic Surgical team is working to bring the benefits of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) to more people and places through a portfolio of robotic & digital solutions. Together, we are working to broaden options and expand access globally for hospitals, surgeons, & patients. While this is a remote position not located at a physical Medtronic site, the candidate hired will be required to reside within the territory and drive to multiple accounts throughout the region. Role
Area Sales Manager – Surgical Robotics — individual contributor role focused on selling the Hugo™ RAS System, end effectors and service. Requires leadership to build coalitions within hospitals, navigate long sales cycles, and drive opportunities to closure with passion and persistence.
Develop and implement targeted sales strategies that align with Medtronic’s goals, focusing on adoption and sales growth of the Hugo™ RAS System.
Engage budget-holders and hospital executives with business cases, total cost of ownership (TCO), cost-per-procedure analyses, and contracting to support informed purchasing decisions.
Collaborate with hospital executives to create compelling business cases aligning financial outcomes with clinical benefits.
Create and deliver workshops, system presentations, proposals, and contracts.
Tailor presentations to resonate with key decision-makers, emphasizing clinical and economic advantages of the Hugo™ System.
Collaborate with internal teams to assess opportunities for expanding robotic-assisted surgery use.
Identify and prioritize new market opportunities through market analysis and develop execution plans.
Support leading hospitals in enhancing clinical and operational strategies by integrating the Hugo™ Surgical Robotic System.
Build long-term partnerships with healthcare professionals and hospital leadership to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
Work with Minimally Invasive Surgery specialists and internal technical support to develop opportunities.
Facilitate collaboration between internal teams and customers to ensure support during the sales cycle and post-purchase.
Analyze market data to identify opportunities, assess competition, and provide sales forecasts to guide decisions.
Close significant contracts and track success metrics.
Maintain deep technical knowledge of the Hugo™ RAS System for demonstrations, training, and inquiries.
Spend significant time in the field with frequent travel; ability to work from home or offices as needed in the geographic region.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Promote and sell Medtronic's Medical/Scientific Equipment and services within an assigned area to meet or exceed sales targets.
Develop, build, and strengthen long-term relationships with stakeholders including hospitals, physicians, and Radiology and Surgical personnel.
Pursue leads, assess needs, and provide product services to maximize benefits of Medtronic's equipment and services.
Conduct and evaluate market research including competitors’ activities.
Develop and implement market development plans and adjust as needed.
Assess customer needs and feedback regarding new products or modifications and communicate to R&D, Operations and Marketing.
Must Have
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum of 7 years of sales experience in a medical and/or operating room environment. 3 years of dedicated capital complex selling required
Nice To Have
Expertise in surgery and deep knowledge of minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery
Active network in the field of surgery and operating rooms with regular contact to surgeons
Commitment to ethical practices and adherence to company policies
Clear communication, critical thinking, and continuous learning
Modern computer literacy
Experience in a matrix structure
Strong negotiation skills
Willingness to travel regionally (50% plus)

Salary ranges for U.S locations (USD): 140,000 base; the rate varies by experience, education, and location.
