Overview

Seeking full-time Cancer Genetic Counselor in Winston-Salem, NC. The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is proud to be among an elite group of cancer centers acknowledged as the nation's leaders in the fight against cancer. The National Cancer Institute's comprehensive designation provides patients access to the latest technologies, cancer treatments, clinical trials, and research. The Cancer Genetics service comprises 4 full-time genetic counselors. Counselors see patients from their own clinic schedules and in multidisciplinary cancer clinics. Responsibilities

Provide risk assessment, counseling, testing, and support for patients and families with increased cancer risk. Serve as an informational resource for staff on hereditary cancer syndromes. Participate in cancer center committees and attend/present at weekly tumor conferences. Engage in research, teaching, and community outreach. Collaborate with pediatric oncology, hematology, telehealth genetic counseling services, and the precision medicine navigator. Provide clinical supervision for university and Wake Forest University genetic counseling training programs. Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams to provide genetic and genomic health care. Plan and implement research regarding medical genetics with physicians and other providers. Identify patients who may benefit from genetic/genomic information and services based on assessment data. Explain the nature of genetics evaluation to patients, discuss options, and delineate risks, benefits, and limitations of tests and assessments. Order tests and perform clinical assessments in accordance with regulations; integrate laboratory results with patient history to assess risk and communicate findings. Provide current genetic/genomic information and tailor services to patient culture, language, literacy, and knowledge. Promote unbiased, patient-centered decision making and maintain a non-judgmental attitude. Evaluate impact of genetic/genomic technologies on patient outcomes. Document case information clearly in medical records and communicate with referring physicians and other team members. Plan, organize, and conduct public and professional education on medical genetics and counseling issues. Perform regular self-assessments to identify knowledge gaps and take actions to address them. Maintain professional growth and stay current with practice standards and societal developments. Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC-accredited program. New graduates are encouraged to apply. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) required. Skills & Requirements
