Overview Build a career with impact. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) focuses on mobilizing private sector solutions in developing countries. The Financial Institution Group (FIG) is a key department responsible for a significant portion of IFC’s business volume and impact, including areas such as Microfinance, SME, Climate, and Capital Markets. IFC’s Distressed Assets Recovery Program (DARP) makes investments in distressed assets, establishes investment facilities, and builds servicing capacity in emerging markets.
The Associate Investment Officer will be based in Washington, DC, and report to the Global Head of DARP.
Duties & Accountabilities
Provide support to teams responsible for investments in distressed assets during the entire project cycle – origination, execution, supervision and exit of investments.
When working on straightforward transactions, lead teams to execute transactions, negotiate to develop solutions, and monitor investments after completion.
Create, analyze and assess complex financial analyses and pricing/valuation models on distressed assets deals.
Work on distressed assets investments through SPVs or funds, including equity, mezzanine and debt instruments.
Collaborate with portfolio staff in IFC regional offices and other DARP team members to monitor performance and advise on active portfolio management actions.
Support the definition of DARP’s global and regional strategies and prioritization of focus areas, collaborating with related IFC and World Bank teams.
Engage in IFC internal processes related to DARP investments, including credit ratings, valuations, and compliance with environmental, social, insurance and legal requirements.
Share knowledge of distressed assets markets with FIG regional teams.
Mentor and supervise analysts; assist in other projects or strategy activities as needed.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in finance, economics or related fields, or MBA.
Minimum of 5 years of banking and financial markets experience, with exposure to emerging markets.
Exposure to distressed investing with underwriting, acquisition, management, and resolution experience.
Understanding of sector drivers, market development cycles, and performance measurement in the sector and regional contexts.
Strong analytical, financial modeling and valuation skills; solid credit judgment.
Ability to oversee and provide quality control for financial models prepared by analysts.
Ability to build productive internal and external relationships to identify opportunities and resolve issues.
Original thinking, quick learning, initiative, and attention to detail; good teamwork and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
Willingness to travel.
