Assistant Professor of North American Indigenous Literatures
This position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with a 3/3 teaching load and expectation of student advising. Faculty are expected to produce at least 2 peer-reviewed publications (or equivalent) every 3 years. Service expectations include committee work and related department activities. Minimum qualifications include a Doctorate in English or a closely related field, including Indigenous Studies, and a minimum of three years of teaching experience at the university level. Areas of interest include demonstrated ability to teach and develop courses in North American Indigenous Literatures, pedagogies that support students of all backgrounds, and active research and interest in the field of North American Indigenous Literatures. The English department at Appalachian State University offers multiple undergraduate programs, including Creative Writing, Film, English Education, Literary Studies, and Rhetoric and Technical Writing, as well as an M.A. program with concentrations in Literary Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, and Teaching Literature and Writing. Responsibilities include teaching introductory and major-specific courses, student advising, and committee work. Requirements include a Doctorate in English or a closely related field and a minimum of three years of teaching experience at the university level. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated ability to teach and develop courses in North American Indigenous Literatures and active research and interest in the field of North American Indigenous Literatures.
