Overview
La Paz County is seeking a knowledgeable and driven
Chief Building Inspector
to lead our Building and Safety Division within the Community Development Department. This senior-level position is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising building inspections, plan reviews, permitting, and code enforcement operations. The Chief Building Inspector will work collaboratively with contractors, engineers, architects, staff, and the public to ensure compliance with county, state, and federal building codes and zoning regulations. The ideal candidate is a motivated and solution-oriented leader with significant experience in construction inspection and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and supervise building inspections, plan reviews, permitting, and code enforcement operations. Lead and develop staff; provide guidance and supervision in both office and field settings, including rural or remote areas. Collaborate with contractors, engineers, architects, staff, and the public to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and related standards. Make sound, impartial decisions under pressure and resolve complex inspection or compliance issues. Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in construction engineering, architecture, or a related field. Five (5) years of experience in construction or performing building inspections with a strong understanding of code compliance. Three (3) years in a supervisory or administrative role, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Familiarity with modern building construction methods, materials, and tools. In-depth understanding of state and county building codes and ordinances. Ability to analyze plans and conduct field inspections, including for complex or problematic sites.
Licenses & Certifications
Current International Code Council (ICC) certifications including Plans Examiner designation, or ability to obtain within 24 months. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment.
