Beloit International Film Festival (BIFF) is a ten-day celebration of independent film from around the world. In 2025, BIFF marked its 20th anniversary, attracting residents and visitors nationwide to experience more than 100 films. Filmmakers from the U.S. and across Europe, Asia, and Latin America come to Beloit to showcase their work, engage with enthusiastic audiences, and share their passion for storytelling. BIFF honors all film genres—features, documentaries, and shorts—and fosters a welcoming environment for meaningful dialogue between creators and audiences. As BIFF embarks on its third decade, we seek a visionary Executive Director to collaborate with a committed, community-driven board of directors and lead BIFF into a new era of success within the Beloit community. Position Summary The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive of the Beloit International Film Festival (BIFF), providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and public representation for the organization. The ED works in close collaboration with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and achieves its programmatic and financial objectives. This role demands a dynamic leader capable of guiding staff, volunteers, seasonal personnel, and interns to successfully plan and execute the annual festival and year-round programs.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategic Planning

Develop and execute long-term strategies that align with BIFF’s mission, vision, and values.

Provide regular reports to the Board, including an annual post-festival review that identifies successes, challenges, and opportunities for growth.

Collaborate with the Board to meet governance, legal, and financial responsibilities.

Support Board development by assisting in recruitment, training, and ongoing education for Board members.

Organizational & Operational Management

Lead the planning and execution of the annual film festival and related events.

Oversee the creation and implementation of an annual organizational calendar, ensuring key deadlines are met.

Oversee the rental, purchase, and leasing of venues and equipment.

Ensure effective internal operations through policy development and compliance, including adherence to the organization’s record retention policies.

Collaborate with staff and production teams to develop year-round programs that support both mission and revenue objectives.

Oversee the implementation of marketing and communication strategies across media platforms, emphasizing visibility and audience growth at local, national, and international levels.

Fundraising & Development

Serve as BIFF’s chief fundraiser, cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant makers, while collaborating with the Fundraising Committee.

Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including individual gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events.

Develop strategies to boost film submissions, ticket sales, and festival attendance.

Financial Management

Ensure effective financial management in collaboration with the Board Treasurer.

Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting systems.

Maintain a balanced operating budget and explore new revenue streams to strengthen financial sustainability.

Human Resources & Staff Leadership

Supervise staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers.

Develop job descriptions, establish performance expectations, and conduct evaluations of staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers.

Ensure compliance with employment regulations and implement sound HR policies.

Participate in an annual performance review in partnership with the Board.

Public Relations & Community Engagement

Represent BIFF as its principal spokesperson and ambassador.

Foster relationships with community stakeholders, media outlets, sponsors, and industry professionals.

Stay current with trends in the film festival industry by attending relevant events and cultivating industry contacts.

Promote a culture of inclusion and collaboration across diverse community and professional audiences.

Qualifications

5+ years of film industry, event production, or festival operations experience.

Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, arts administration, or a related field.

Demonstrated success in fundraising, financial oversight, and team leadership.

Passion for independent film and cultural programming.

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadline pressure.

As a community organization, residency in Beloit, WI is preferred but not required, depending on the individual’s situation.

Compensation

Compensation up to $85,000, depending on experience in non-profit and film festival operations.
