Mi Familia Vota (MFV) and Mi Familia en Acción (MFA) are national Latino-led civic engagement organizations working year-round to strengthen democracy and empower our communities. MFA, a 501(c)(3), focuses on nonpartisan programs such as citizenship, voter registration, voter education, and leadership development on key issues, including immigration, education, healthcare, voting rights, workers’ rights, reproductive rights, and the environment. MFV, a 501(c)(4) organization, builds Latino political power through advocacy, organizing, and mobilization to ensure that Latino voices shape the policies that impact their health, safety, and prosperity. Together, we operate one of the largest Latino civic engagement infrastructures in the country, with programs across eight states (Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, Colorado, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida) and Washington, D.C. Position Overview
Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia en Acción seek a National Communications Director to lead the organizations’ communications and media strategy. This leader will oversee external and internal communications, drive strategic plans for programmatic and policy campaigns across multiple states, and elevate MFV’s presence on the national stage. The Communications Director will serve as MFV’s chief strategist, and brand steward, shaping how Latino civic engagement is represented in the public sphere. The Director will manage a communications team and collaborate closely with organizers, policy leaders, and national/state staff to advance our mission of building Latino political power. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Leadership
Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive communications strategies that raise MFV’s visibility nationally and in states. Serve as the primary press contact for MFV. Shape messaging across key issue areas aligned with our policy agenda (immigration, voting rights, etc.) to ensure cultural resonance and political impact. Campaign & Media Strategy
Lead proactive and rapid-response communications for national and state-level campaigns. Manage earned media, digital campaigns, advertising, and partnerships with organizers, researchers, and data teams. Oversee and track the communications budget, including political communications expenditures. Team Leadership & Development
Hire, train, and supervise communications staff and consultants. Provide leadership, mentorship, and growth opportunities to team members. Establish effective systems for cross-departmental collaboration. Stakeholder Engagement
Represent MFV with external stakeholders, including media outlets, allies, elected officials, and partner organizations. Build and maintain strong relationships with key political reporters, influencers, and opinion-shapers. Collaborate with vendors (consultants, pollsters, advertising agencies, multimedia producers) to execute campaigns. Internal & External Alignment
Work with state offices and national departments to ensure consistent messaging and branding. Provide communications support for organizational leadership, Board of Directors, and state leadership. Desired Qualifications
Must be based in Washington, D.C. or surrounding area 8+ years of experience in communications, media relations, or campaign strategy, ideally in political, advocacy, or nonprofit settings. Proven track record of developing and executing communications strategies for organizing, electoral, or policy campaigns. Strong editorial judgment, excellent writing and messaging skills, and the ability to simplify complex issues. Experience supervising, mentoring, and managing staff in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure. Established relationships with national and/or political reporters strongly preferred. Experience in multilingual communications (Spanish/English) is a plus. Proficiency in cloud-based project management tools (Google Suite, Slack, Trello, etc.). Commitment to MFV’s mission and values of equity, justice, and Latino empowerment. Compensation:
