POSITION: Biology Teacher (Classroom)
TERM: Eleven month work year
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction
Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in use of educationally appropriate technology.
- Provide academic instruction to students.
- Implement student IEP requirements.
- Establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth.
- Help students develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education.
- Maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.
- Perform instructional duties in a professional manner, including:
- developing weekly lesson plans and instructional materials;
- adapting the curriculum to the needs of each student;
- effecting lesson plans through presentation to achieve objectives;
- ensuring class activities and lesson presentations are age-appropriate for the
- setting specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly
- devising written and oral assignments, tests and other related assessments
critical thinking as well as the utilization/recall of facts and appropriate data;
- maintaining records of students’ educational progress in class record books,
reporting purposes;
- developing proficiency in the school grading system;
- preparing grades, report cards and progress reports;
- utilizing functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and learning centers to
- providing extra help to students.
- Provide specialized instructional need to address students’ disabilities, including:
- implementing student IEPs;
- implementing the Behavior Intervention/Modification Plans;
- assessing pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives
- identifying student needs and cooperating with other professional staff members
- providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the
- establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior to achieve classroom
- obtaining proficiency in CITW, McRel, Orton Gillingham, NWEA, Frontline Direct IEP
- communicating with parents through conferences, weekly telephone calls and other means (i.e., electronic media including teacher pages on parent portal, email, web posting and phone/written communication) about the school program and to discuss student progress.
- Exercising authority in the classroom, including;
- supervising Instructional Aide/Assistant;
- budgeting class time effectively.
- Supporting student transition, including:
- writing college/private school recommendations.
- Supporting non-academic programs of the school, including:
- supervising students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned;
- chaperoning class trips.
- Enhance educational environment and opportunities available at the schools,
- participating in school-level planning, staff meetings/committees and other school
- making effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional
- participating in discussions relating to grade level/subject area curriculum and
- participating in curriculum and materials need assessment activities and curriculum
- being well-versed in the social decision-making and problem solving curriculum/
- Maintain and enhance professional competency, including:
- maintaining professional competence and continuous improvement through in-
- participating in professional development programs;
- keeping current on the latest educational and behavioral strategies.
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
- Collaborate with other professional staff members to elicit the very
