The closing date is 21 October 2025 We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join our dynamic Shared Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering an exceptional payroll service to around 15,000 employees across multiple NHS organisations. In this varied and rewarding role, you\'ll ensure our people are paid accurately and on time, contributing directly to the smooth running of essential NHS services. As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will manage a designated payroll portfolio covering both weekly and monthly pay runs, ensuring all payments are processed accurately, on time and in full compliance with statutory regulations, NHS terms and conditions and Trust policies. You will also take responsibility for running weekly payrolls on a team rota basis, support audit requirements and contribute to ongoing process improvement across Shared Services. We\'re looking for someone with proven payroll experience, ideally within a large and complex organisation. Input payroll data, including starters, leavers, variations to contract, absence, overtime and any other allied data received by an appropriate authorised signatory to ensure employee records are correct and up to date. Scrutinise, check and verify Payroll colleague\'s input to the ESR payroll System to ensure correct and timely payments are made Be responsible for running the weekly payroll Interpret previous service details and apply to the payroll system in order to maintain accurate records and pay staff correctly Maintain accurate records as per Statutory Regulations relating to the payroll function ensuring the Department meets legal statutory obligations and internal audit requirements. Use the ESR (Payroll System) to produce accurate and punctual payments to employees of the Trust. Carry out complex manual calculations and make payments Apply and interpret the various NHS/Trust conditions of service Scrutinise and verify computer output Ensure the adherence at all times to the Standing Financial Instructions, Financial Procedures and Service Level Agreements of the Trust. Undertake supervisory and training duties to ensure new staff are adequately developed Deal with queries from employees, Managers and HR relating to payroll matters in a professional and timely manner. To file Payroll correspondence where appropriate To agree personal objectives in conjunction with the Payroll Team Leader, in accordance with the Trusts appraisal system. To carry out complex manual calculations and make payments, thus ensuring accurate data is recorded on the ESR Payroll System. To apply and interpret the various NHS/Trust conditions of service to ensure correct payments are made. To scrutinise and verify computer output to ensure amended records are correct and meet audit requirement To ensure the adherence at all times to the Standing Financial Instructions, Financial Procedures and Service Level Agreements of the Trust. To undertake supervisory and training duties to ensure new staff are adequately developed and that consistent procedures are followed. To deal with queries from employees, Managers and HR relating to payroll matters in a professional and timely manner. To file Payroll correspondence where appropriate in order to maintain up to date personal files. To agree personal objectives in conjunction with the Payroll Team Leader, in accordance with the Trusts appraisal system. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent knowledge and experience in relevant area 4 GCSE/O Levels grade 5/C or above to include Maths and English Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of ESR Knowledge of payroll procedures and statutory regulations Knowledge of NHS terms and conditions Experience

Experience of working within a customer service environment Experience of identifying solutions to problems Recent experience of handling administrative tasks Personal Attributes
