This role involves leading materials innovation, strategic fabric sourcing, and development across all Gap Inc brands, including Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta. You will be responsible for translating brand aesthetic into clear, executable direction, leveraging consumer insights and trends to drive fabric development, innovation, and positioning. Leadership in color operations and fostering a 'Fabric First' mentality are key aspects of this role. You will collaborate with teams across North America and Asia, providing strategic direction and thought partnership. Salary Range: $300,000 - $360,000 USD. Compensation varies based on qualifications, experience, skill level, and location. Key Responsibilities: Lead US-based Materials teams, developing multi-year fabric R&D strategies. Partner with design, merchandising, production, and sourcing teams to meet creative and commercial requirements. Contribute to global sourcing and product assortment strategies. Oversee key milestones in the product-to-market calendar for assigned brands. Research and analyze textile trends, technologies, and consumer preferences to inform innovation. Set trend directions and drive innovation based on industry macro trends. Analyze fabric needs across the company, providing recommendations for leveraging qualities across brands. Establish and monitor fabric development KPIs. Maintain physical and digital materials libraries. Manage color library, including processes and testing. Stay updated on market trends and emerging technologies. Ensure sustainability targets are met through material innovation and collaboration. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in textile design, material science, or related field; advanced qualifications preferred. 15+ years in senior materials roles with global leadership experience. Proven track record in fabric development and innovation in a multi-brand enterprise. Deep expertise in textiles, fibers, yarns, and fabric construction, including sustainable materials. Ability to specify custom requirements and resolve manufacturing issues. Strong vendor network globally. Excellent communication skills and leadership ability. Experience with PLM systems and digital tools. Willingness to travel globally.
