Position Summary
The Custodial Engineer - Electrical Specialist is responsible for performing skilled electrical maintenance and repairs, general building upkeep to ensure the facility operates efficiently, safely, and presents a clean, well-maintained environment. This role demands a versatile individual with strong electrical knowledge combined with general maintenance experience.

Essential Functions Electrical Systems & Technical Duties: • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems including switchgear, transformers, panelboards, motor control centers (MCC), circuit breakers, and lighting. • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, insulation testers, clamp meters, and oscilloscopes. • Install, wire, and maintain electrical components including lighting fixtures, outlets, emergency power systems, grounding systems, and control panels. • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot building automation systems (BAS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and motor starters for HVAC, elevators, and mechanical equipment. • Interpret and execute electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics. • Adhere to safety protocols including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and comply with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and other relevant standards. • Keep accurate documentation of electrical maintenance and repairs.
General Building Maintenance & Custodial Duties: • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as minor plumbing repairs, HVAC filter changes, and mechanical equipment upkeep. • Respond promptly to facility repair requests and assist with general custodial tasks including floor cleaning, restroom sanitation, window washing, and waste removal. • Operate custodial equipment like floor buffers, vacuums, and scrubbers. • Assist with event setups, furniture moving, and organization of storage areas. • Monitor and manage custodial and maintenance supplies inventory. • Operate groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and snow removal tools. • Maintain walkways, parking lots, and exterior lighting to ensure safety and aesthetic appeal.
Safety & Compliance: • Conduct regular inspections of electrical, building, custodial, and grounds systems to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs. • Follow all safety guidelines and participate in safety training and emergency drills. • Maintain clear records of maintenance activities and safety compliance.
Position Qualifications
Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical maintenance in commercial or institutional facilities. Proficient in electrical systems up to 480V, including three-phase power, and familiarity with PLCs and BAS preferred. Skilled in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams. Experience in general building maintenance, custodial duties, and groundskeeping. Certification as Journeyman or Master Electrician preferred. Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and general safety practices. Ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment. Strong problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multitask. Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and stand for long periods. Flexible schedule including availability for emergency calls, nights, and weekends. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to dust, chemicals, noise, and energized electrical equipment. May require climbing, working at heights, and performing physically demanding tasks.
