Base pay range $68,640.00/yr - $76,884.00/yr HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION The Histotechnologist is the sole histotechnologist performing and managing operations in a histotechnology laboratory that prepares animal samples for microscopic examination, conducts assigned research activities, maintains equipment and may provide lead guidance to staff and volunteers. This position reports to a Supervisor level or higher in the Conservation Science & Wildlife Health department. WHAT YOU WILL DO Perform histology tasks and procedures, including tissue processing, tissue embedding, microtomy, mounting, staining, and immunohistochemistry. Develop, update, and implement related histotechnology procedures, including quality control. Maintain and upkeep of inventory while tracking budgets associated with equipment maintenance, purchase of supplies, and other operational expenses; preparation of purchase requisitions. Oversee research collections of biological samples of FFPE blocks, including processing and maintaining filing systems. Oversee maintenance and organization of laboratory equipment, reagents, and chemicals. Oversee assigned laboratory operations. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR JOB EXPERIENCE Two years experience in laboratory, diagnostic, animal care, or field experience required. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in biology, zoology, botany, or a related field or equivalent specialized training required. ASCP Histotechnician or Histotechnologist Certification required. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Some knowledge of grant preparation preferred. Able to operate moderately complex computer software programs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a highly productive and diverse team. Strong working knowledge of conservation science.
