Founded in 1867, Morgan State University is Maryland’s premier public urban research institution, dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, public service, and community engagement. The School of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (SCMNS), in partnership with the Morgan State Patuxent Environmental and Aquatic Research Laboratory (PEARL), invites applications for a 9.5-month tenure-track position in Community and Economic Resilience to support the Center for Urban and Coastal Climate Science Research. The Center focuses on climate change challenges and their impact on natural ecosystems, the built environment, the economy, and residents’ health and well-being. We seek a new faculty member at the assistant, associate, or full professor level whose research aligns with the Center’s mission. Salaries are competitive and include the State of Maryland benefits package. The appointment will begin in August 2025. We are especially interested in candidates with a track record of research productivity in climate science and community resilience, focusing on climate-induced hazards and infrastructure interdependencies, and economic and social systems. Candidates with research on climate change effects on critical infrastructure (power, water, food, transportation, housing, communications, emergency services, economy, health) and mitigation strategies are strongly encouraged to apply. Job Duties
Establish independent, externally funded research programs. Mentor and supervise postdoctoral researchers, graduate/undergraduate students, and research technicans. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Publish research findings in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
Experience and commitment to advancing climate science and community and economic resilience research are essential. Required Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate in a relevant discipline from an accredited university. Demonstrated potential to develop a dynamic, nationally-recognized, externally-funded research program involving publications in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals. Other Considerations
