Experience and Education

Required Education : Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program either by a governmental authority, nursing board, or a licensing authority which has jurisdiction over approval/accreditation of nursing programs (Texas BON 217.1). Experience : 1 year of RN experience. Licenses and Certifications : Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) – current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license upon hire; Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) upon hire. Specialty areas may require increased experience/certification as dictated by unit or standard of care. Preferred Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Professional Certification in a nursing organization Job Duties

Performs and accurately documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments with age-specific considerations (children, adolescents, adults, and elder adults). Anticipates patient and/or family needs and develops an appropriate plan of care using assessment findings; utilizes critical thinking and maintains unit competencies. Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions based on assessments; documents interventions; coordinates the interdisciplinary plan of care; communicates observations to the health care team. Prioritizes nursing interventions, identifies condition changes promptly, and reports and follows up as appropriate; involves patient and family in care decisions. Evaluates interventions and modifies the plan of care; documents changes in a timely manner. Adheres to hospital and nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and ANA standards; practices within the Professional Practice Model and Care Delivery System. Provides education to patients and families; documents education and discharge planning; assesses understanding and learning needs. Welcomes and orients patients and families; reviews personalized care plans each shift; communicates schedules and explains procedures and medications clearly. Advocates for resources and supports patient safety and unit/hospital initiatives; participates in budget discussions as appropriate. Performs Peer Evaluation and supports accountability for policy compliance; intervenes when patient safety is at risk. Participates in Performance Improvement activities and multidisciplinary quality teams; contributes to patient safety and satisfaction goals. Shares professional information with colleagues and students; acts as a resource as needed; participates in meetings, committees, and community outreach. Performs other duties as assigned.
