At Level-1, we're on a mission to democratize game development. Millions of kids dream of building their own games but abandon their passion when they hit the "complexity wall" of professional engines like Unity and Unreal. For game studios, this same complexity makes prototyping new ideas slow, expensive, and risky.
We're solving this by building the world's first
AI-native game development platform . Our product transforms natural language prompts into complete, exportable video games built directly in the
Godot engine . Not just a tool, but an educational launchpad for aspiring game builders.
Role Description This isn't just another engineering job. As a foundational member of our small, dedicated team, you will have a massive impact, shipping code that directly shapes our core product and architecture. You'll work alongside our co-founders, a Forbes 30 Under 30 AI architect and a seasoned EdTech entrepreneur, to build a platform that redefines the boundaries between ideas and interactive experiences. If you are passionate about the intersection of AI, gaming, and education, this is your chance to get in on the ground floor of something special.
Design, build, and maintain
the core backend services and AI pipelines that power our game generation engine.
Develop and integrate our multi-agent AI system
using Python, LangChain, and state-of-the-art LLMs (like Anthropic's Claude).
Build robust APIs
in Node.js/TypeScript to connect our React frontend with the complex game generation and compilation processes.
Orchestrate headless Godot 4.2 instances
on the server for automated project compilation, validation, and export.
Collaborate directly with the founding team
to translate product vision into technical reality, from feature development to architectural decisions.
Continuously innovate
by staying on the cutting edge of AI and game development technology to keep our platform ahead of the curve.
Who We're Looking For
1-3+ years of professional experience
in backend or full-stack software engineering, with proficiency in
Python
or
Node.js/TypeScript .
A builder's mindset:
You have a history of building applications from the ground up (idea-to-launch) and are comfortable with the ambiguity and velocity of a pre-seed startup.
Strong problem-solving skills:
You can break down complex, novel problems into actionable steps and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
Excellent collaborator
who thrives in a small team environment.
Based in the SF Bay Area
and available for in-person collaboration in a hybrid model.
Bonus Points (Nice to Have):
Direct experience building with LLMs, agentic workflows, or frameworks like LangChain.
A genuine passion for video games and/or experience with game engines (Godot, Unity, Unreal).
Prior experience at an early-stage startup.
