Overview

The Communications Specialist supports the Association’s marketing and digital communications initiatives with a strategic focus on planning, campaign development, and performance analysis. This role extends beyond execution to encompass content strategy, social media, email campaign analytics, SEO, and cross-departmental collaboration. The position is responsible for guiding marketing efforts, enhancing engagement, and ensuring all communications align with organizational goals and brand standards.

Responsibilities

Graphic Design

Use Adobe Creative Suite to create and adapt designs across multiple formats and sizes (print, digital, large-scale signage, flyers, newsletters, social media graphics, etc.) to ensure consistency, accessibility, and brand alignment.

Design and edit multimedia content—including graphics, videos, and infographics—for online platforms, internal communications, and marketing materials.

Partner with departments and committees to develop materials that support initiatives and marketing campaigns.

Review and proof all designs for layout, spelling, formatting, and adherence to brand standards before publication or distribution.

Think creatively to design engaging and compelling visuals that align with project goals and the Association’s brand identity.

Social Media

Develop and schedule consistent daily and weekly content across social media channels, coordinating with departments to highlight programs, services, and events.

Manage community interaction by responding to comments and messages, engaging with followers, and monitoring trends to strengthen the Association’s online presence.

Create, promote, and manage events on social media platforms, including developing targeted social media advertisements (primarily Facebook) to increase engagement and attendance.

Contribute to the development and execution of social media strategies based on audience research and competitive insights.

Ensure all social media content is consistent in tone, brand, and visual style.

Hospitality Marketing

Collaborate with Food and Beverage, Spa, and Events teams in the planning and execution of marketing campaigns.

Support seasonal promotions, community gatherings, and special events through coordinated marketing efforts.

Coordinate advertising placements across print, digital, and public relations channels, ensuring alignment with brand standards.

Develop promotional materials in collaboration with departments to highlight packages and drive attendance.

Email Marketing and Communications (eNews)

Build and send email campaigns for various departments in collaboration with the Communications and IT Department.

Track and report on email campaign performance (open rates, click-through rates, etc.) to measure effectiveness and inform future strategies.

Assist departments in drafting and refining communications to maintain brand voice and clarity across platforms.

Videography and Photography

Photograph and record community events, classes, and hospitality promotions.

Edit video content for online posting (knowledge of Adobe Premiere desirable but not required).

Ensure video and photo content is high-quality, accessible, and consistent with brand standards.

Support departments with video projects for promotions, advertising, and special requests.

Website and Online Content

Implement and monitor SEO best practices (keywords, metadata, alt tags, link structure) to improve visibility and search engine rankings.

Analyze web traffic and user behavior through analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to measure the effectiveness of content and campaigns.

Collaborate with the Communications and IT Department to recommend and implement enhancements that improve user experience, accessibility, and engagement.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate or bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field preferred.

5+ years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or design preferred.

Technical Skills:

Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, etc.) with strong skills in multimedia content creation, typography, color, and layout.

Knowledge of print and digital design principles, website usability, accessibility, and industry standards.

Understanding of HTML, CSS, and basic web content management systems.

Experience with social media management tools, email marketing platforms, and digital analytics.

Familiarity with SEO best practices and online engagement strategies.

Communication and Writing:

Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to craft clear and engaging communications for diverse audiences.

Ability to maintain brand voice and messaging consistency across multiple platforms.

Skilled in reviewing content, interpreting analytics, and making data-informed recommendations.

Interpersonal and Organizational Skills:

Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with experience working across multiple departments and committees.

Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously.

Strategic thinker with creativity and the ability to produce visually engaging and effective marketing materials.

Comfortable taking initiative, leading projects, and making recommendations that improve communication effectiveness and audience engagement.
