Principal Consultant, Renewable Energy/Power

overseeing environmental impact assessment and permitting for renewable energy facilities throughout the Midwest and Heartland, based in Overland Park, Kansas. The role leads environmental impact assessment and permitting for solar developments, technology infrastructure, energy transmission projects, and other major capital development projects. The ideal candidate has experience permitting complex development projects in the power and/or technology sector and leads NEPA and other federal, state, and local reviews for large-scale projects. This position focuses on environmental impact assessment and multi-level permitting to facilitate development, construction, and operation of commercial-scale energy facilities and support the low carbon economy transition in the U.S. The portfolio is fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The role requires both independent work and collaboration with teams of subject matter experts to manage varying priorities and deadlines across multiple projects. Manage and perform complex permitting and compliance for renewable energy and technology sector development projects with emphasis on local, state, and federal permitting, including NEPA and regulations of federal agencies (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) and state agencies. Lead preparation of permitting documents for energy/industrial facility development, expansion, maintenance, or decommissioning, overseeing report writing, data collection, literature review, and client recommendations. Prepare discipline-specific reports, permitting documents, NEPA documents, and state-level environmental reviews in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements; serve as project manager, task manager, technical expert, and QA/QC lead for deliverables. Contribute technical, subject matter, or project management expertise on permitting strategies, due diligence reviews, environmental assessments, and overall quality control. Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and leads to expand renewable projects and the team. Manage quality, budget, schedule, and scope-specific assignments; ensure cohesive delivery across project teams. Collaborate with ERM practitioners to execute impact assessment and permitting services across baseline studies, routing studies, land planning, and facility siting & permitting. Expand ERM’s profile and market share through client relationships and delivery of high-quality, reliable service. Requirements

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental management, wetland science, planning, geography, or related natural resources science field; or 8+ years of equivalent experience. 8+ years of project management, licensing, and permitting experience, including strong experience in power. Experience with federal, state, and local permitting, particularly with renewal energy project applications and documents. Experience assisting clients in obtaining multi-media permits and approvals for new or expanded facilities. Experience coordinating desktop and online studies or research on natural resource topics; GIS, map interpretation (National Wetland Inventory, USGS, aerial photography). Ability to research and prepare concise, accurate technical documents and present findings to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies. Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills; experience documenting detailed technical data and reports. Ability to multi-task, travel as needed, and work independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members; strong collaboration, adaptability, and client-service orientation in a fast-paced environment. Driver’s License required: valid license and ability to operate a company vehicle due to travel to client locations across a large geographic area. About ERM
