Duties Summary

This position is with the Market Analysis and News Branch (MANB), Agricultural Development Division (ADD) of the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA). The ADD assists in researching, evaluating, developing, enhancing, and expanding local agricultural industries. Improving the efficiency of agricultural production and marketing, including the collection and publication of agricultural statistical data. The primary purpose of this position is to perform agricultural related research surveys and assist with research studies. Position is responsible for the collection of data by planning and conducting across-the-board surveys of wholesalers, processors, retailers, farmers, transportation companies and other identified data sources; validation, interpretation, and analysis of the data; and the development of narrative interpretation, reports and dissemination through various media. The incumbent may be required to work overtime which may include weekends and/or holidays. May also be required to work, attend classes or conferences, or receive training on other islands and/or U.S. Mainland. During the course of conducting surveys or interviews, the incumbent may be required to traverse uneven ground and work in inclement weather conditions, which could involve heat, humidity, muddy, cold, and wet environments. Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 127A-8, all state and county officials, officers, and employees are considered "emergency workers" and shall perform functions as determined by their respective state or county department director during emergencies or disasters.

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Basic Education:

A bachelor\'s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, which included three (3) semester credit hours in statistics. Specialized Experience:

One and one-half (1 1/2) years of professional work experience conducting research and/or statistical studies which involved planning and designing surveys; modifying and applying research and statistical methods and techniques to the collection and analysis of data; and preparing summaries or reports with data presented in graphic, narrative or numerical form. Non-Qualifying Work Experience:

Without other indication of professional statistical experience, work in processing of numerical or quantified information by other than statistical methods is not considered appropriate qualifying experience. Examples of such non-qualifying experience include statistical clerical work; statistical drafting; work requiring the calculation of totals, averages, percentages or other arithmetic summations; work involving the preparation of simple tables or charts; work requiring the verification of data by simple comparison or proofreading.
