Job Description About the Team The WSJ Opinion section offers intelligent, values‑driven commentary with a focus on free markets and free people, delivering original analysis and strong points of view on the news of the day.

About the Role This role is central to translating that voice for a visual‑first, social‑native audience. We seek a versatile social and podcast video editor to adapt our podcasts into full‑length vodcasts for YouTube and on‑platform viewing, while producing vertical video clips for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and WSJ.com.

As part of our social media team, you will work with editorial board members, writers, editors, and our video and audio teams to produce compelling social video that showcases WSJ Opinion for new and existing audiences. You will participate in all production steps: conceptualization, scripting, shooting, editing/post‑production, and distribution, implementing motion graphics, multi‑camera editing, and on‑screen text. You will also manage metadata optimization, selecting titles, thumbnails, and captions to maximize reach.

You Will

Lead the visual post‑production for full‑length vodcast episodes, including editing, clipping moments, and optimizing for YouTube and other platforms.

Lead vertical storytelling by creating short‑form content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts to reach new and existing audiences, collaborating with editorial, social media, audio, and video teams.

Closely monitor podcast video trends to guide visual strategy.

Pitch stories and concepts and develop unique angles.

Integrate motion graphics, multi‑camera editing, and on‑screen text.

Optimize titles, thumbnails, and captions.

Embed short‑form video in various Opinion newsletters.

Attend coverage planning meetings and identify stories with new audience development potential.

Help codify best visual practices on social media, creating unique templates and updating guidelines.

You Have

5+ years experience at the intersection of social media and journalism; experience as a video or multimedia producer preferred.

Deep knowledge of visual‑first social platforms, especially TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Snapchat.

Experience with photo and video editing software, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Final Cut Pro, After Effects; animation skills a plus.

Sound editorial judgment and a clear understanding of WSJ Opinion's ideas, philosophy, and principles.

Understanding of social‑media publishing tools and analytics.

Enthusiasm for opinion journalism and curiosity about current events and business news.

Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and collaborative abilities.
