The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning. Speechify’s text-to-speech products help millions read faster, read more, and remember more across the Android app, iOS app, Mac app, Chrome Extension, and Web App. We are a distributed team with a flat organization that values leadership shown through strong technical skills and delivering results quickly. This role is for a Senior Android Engineer to support growth and work on exciting projects that push the product forward. Our interview process involves several technical interviews and aims to be completed within 1 week. Responsibilities
Owning major features and collaborating with design to deliver high-quality features within the Android app Shape the future of the Android team Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features Participate in cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering Review pull requests and support other teammates Handle critical issues or unexpected challenges Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for the QA team Qualifications
5+ years of software engineering experience Familiarity with Android components Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app Product design intuition and user empathy Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing tests Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the concrete spec Proficiency with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit Excellent communication skills User-oriented problem solving approach Receptive to continuous feedback from leaders Bonus
Experience building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS Technologies we use
