We’re looking for a Managing Director to join our Institutional Sales team at Principal Asset Management where you will play a pivotal role in fostering inclusive partnerships and drive sustainable growth. Reporting to Amanda Wilson, Managing Director, Head of Distribution US & Canada Institutional and Global Consultant Relations, the Managing Director, Institutional Sales will be responsible for business development efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region, primarily focused on institutional investors with $5B+ in investable assets. What You’ll Do
Engage Proactively: Forge meaningful relationships with large institutional asset owners, including public and corporate plans, endowments, foundations and health systems. You’ll champion our wide range of traditional and alternative investment products and solutions, adeptly addressing clients’ investment challenges to drive business growth. Strategic Marketing Initiatives: Develop and implement innovative marketing strategies to cultivate and fortify relationships with both prospective and existing clients through internal relationships with Consultant Relations, Product, Marketing, Relationship Management, Client Service, and Investment team members. Product Innovation: Contribute to the evolution of our product offerings by actively participating in their development and design, ensuring alignment with client needs and market trends. Goal Achievement: Meet or exceed goals for growth in assets under management and corresponding revenues, expanding current client relationships and new clients obtained. Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus at least seven years related experience in the institutional asset management industry Active FINRA Series 7 and 63 (or 66) Demonstrated expertise and deep understanding of the institutional asset management landscape Experience with large Institutional investors ($5 billion plus in assets) includes endowments, foundations, public and corporate pension plans, and health systems Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
Public and private markets experience including closing business in public fixed income and equities, private real estate, and private credit Institutional business development track record Mid-Atlantic territory coverage CFA and/or MBA NFA licensing 3 will be required Excellent oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills and presentation ability Strong organization and ability to execute effectively on a large opportunity set with in-depth product knowledge Ability to analyze clients’ situations holistically and identify opportunities Proven ability to execute a well-developed business plan, influence to achieve results, and close sales in high-pressure final presentations with a client-centric focus Extensive travel required including client visits and industry conferences. Salary Range Information Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly) $205,000 - $277,000 / year Time Off Program Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided. Pension Eligible No Location
We’re open to considering remote or hybrid talent. Locations for hybrid talent are Des Moines, Chicago, Denver, New York City, Charlotte, or Seattle. Preference is to live in the territory. You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors. Work Authorization
