A Brief Summary of This Position
The Material Controller position is an individual contributor position who supports the Small Parts department reporting to the Shift Supervisor. This role is responsible for the accurate handling, movement, and documentation of materials and products within a manufacturing environment to ensure efficient production flow and inventory accuracy by using computers; stationary and hand held to be used throughout the shift daily. Responds to direct two-way radio requests from departments, using good judgment in prioritizing calls. Must use good judgment in inspection of loads for damage and proper handling. May be required to assist with functions in other department areas and may work irregular hours. Maintains good housekeeping and exercises precautions for safety operation of all equipment.
Essential Functions
Move and document materials/products to maintain inventory accuracy
Interpret production and shipping orders to ensure proper material handling
Perform inventory cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies as needed
Maintain and care for tools and equipment
Follow all safety procedures and actively participate in safety practices
Makes decisions regarding moving, receiving and storing material
Ability to work with a team and/or independently
Important Details about the Role
Knowledgeable with computers
Ability to enter various data into IFS system
Match incoming parts to paper documents to verify part numbers, size quantity, inspect for damage and report all discrepancies
Must be authorized to operate a forklift
Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping
This position reports to the Production Supervisor and has no direct reports
Follow material list to kit loads effectively
Perform audits by comparing records with actual physical materials
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Proficient with computers
Communicate problems or needs to departmental/shift supervision
Add, subtract, multiply, divide, read, write, and count, accurately and legibly
Communicate and interact with coworkers in a professional manner
Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
Become forklift certified
Responsible to conduct Forklift Inspections
High awareness for safety with the ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work in a non-temperature controlled environment, as well as with exposure to outdoors
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to spend 75% of workday standing or walking, 10% sitting, 10% stooping, and 5% climbing
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
One (1) year of previous experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing/outside environment
Moving materials around a warehouse and/or storage yard
Prior experience with computers in inventory management systems
Communicate and interact with coworkers in a professional manner
Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
Prior acceptable job performance, safety record, and attendance required
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Must be able to clearly understand, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions. Must be proficient in the reading of specifications and bills of material. Must be able to perform the computer functions / transactions required by the department timely and effectively.
Job Training Skill Development
:
Must be able to perform satisfactorily all functions of this position up to 6 months of starting this position. Must obtain valid Valmont forklift Operator License for all forklifts used in the position.
Decision Making
:
The decisions the person in this position makes effects inventory accuracy and availability of material for production. The incumbent is responsible for prioritizing the workload to avoid lost time to all departments. Utilizes product mix in location assuring proper rotation of stored materials. Reviews space allocations and material flow to maximize utilization of space available. Able to apply creativity to solve the problems encountered within the scope of their activity. Examples would be to receive material, issue material, or resolve inventory discrepancies and implement the appropriate action to correct them.
