About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Role We're seeking an exceptional Software Engineer to join our Life Science team at Anthropic. Our team is organized around the north star goal of accelerating progress in the life sciences, from early discovery through translation, by an order of magnitude. We build robust, scalable systems that can handle high-volume production workloads while maintaining reliability and performance. In this role, you'll leverage your engineering expertise to prototype new products and features, and develop critical infrastructure that supports our life science applications. You'll build resilient, production‑ready systems that can scale to meet demanding computational requirements while ensuring data integrity and security.
As a founding member of our team, you'll work at the intersection of cutting‑edge AI and the biological sciences, implementing efficient solutions for complex scientific problems. You'll collaborate closely with world‑class researchers and engineers to translate innovative ideas into reliable production systems, while maintaining our commitment to safety and beneficial impact.
Responsibilities
Develop deep understanding of critical workflows in life science and build novel AI solutions to address the needs of biologists and life science professionals.
Rapidly prototype novel products and product features.
Create intuitive interfaces that enable scientists to effectively utilize our AI tools for discovery and analysis.
Collaborate with domain experts to translate complex biological requirements into technical implementations.
Work closely with research, including post‑training, to ensure Claude is uniquely capable of enabling complex workflows in these areas.
You May Be a Good Fit If You:
Have 7+ years of practical experience building production full‑stack software with a focus on usability, and experience with data analysis and experimentation frameworks.
Take a data‑driven approach to problem‑solving, with a keen eye for identifying patterns and opportunities in user behavior and metrics.
Are passionate about the potential of AI to reach and benefit a wide audience, and eager to tackle challenges in scaling AI products.
Thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and enjoy working closely with cross‑functional partners and teammates.
Are passionate about using AI to accelerate scientific discovery while maintaining high ethical standards.
Strong Candidates May Also Have:
Experience integrating and working with AI/ML models and understanding their capabilities, particularly for scientific use cases.
Startup experience, particularly in building products from zero to one.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape how AI transforms biological research. You'll work with some of the world's best AI researchers and engineers while tackling problems that matter deeply for human health and scientific understanding. If you're excited about using your expertise to guide the development of transformative AI systems, we want to hear from you.
Compensation: $300,000 – $320,000 USD. The expected base compensation for this position is below. Our total compensation package for full‑time employees includes equity, benefits, and may include incentive compensation.
Logistics Education requirements:
We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship:
We sponsor visas! We will make every reasonable effort to obtain a visa if we make you an offer.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.
We think AI systems have enormous social and ethical implications. We strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
How we're different We believe that the highest‑impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large‑scale research efforts. We value impact — advancing our long‑term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than working on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We are an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest‑impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
Equal Employment Opportunity As set forth in Anthropic’s Equal Employment Opportunity policy, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected group status under any applicable law.
