Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is storage for the Internet. Through the use of pioneering techniques in distributed computing, developers are able to durably store their data on Amazon’s proven computing infrastructure to achieve virtually limitless storage capacity at minimal cost. Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. The service aims to maximize benefits of scale and to pass those benefits on to developers.

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Manager to lead the S3 Capacity Management organization. This role is critical in ensuring Amazon S3’s infrastructure scales efficiently to meet global customer demand. You’ll lead teams responsible for developing and maintaining systems that forecast, order, fulfill, and provision capacity for one of the world’s largest storage services. Additionally, you will partner with AWS Infrastructure Services to optimize our supply chain planning and manufacturing processes to support S3’s unique use cases.

Utility Computing (UC)

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations—from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key Job Responsibilities

Lead multiple software development teams focused on capacity management systems and automation

Drive the technical vision for S3’s capacity forecasting, procurement, and provisioning systems

Collaborate with hardware engineering, supply chain, and data center teams to optimize capacity deployment

Develop and maintain sophisticated forecasting models to predict S3’s global capacity needs

Own critical capacity management metrics and create data‑driven strategies for infrastructure growth

Design and implement systems for automated capacity provisioning and optimization

Partner with Finance and Supply Chain teams to optimize infrastructure investments

Lead continuous improvement in capacity planning accuracy and efficiency

Basic Qualifications

10+ years of engineering experience

5+ years of engineering team management experience

10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience

Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience partnering with product and program management teams

Experience designing and developing large scale, high‑traffic applications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $198,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
