Amazon is shaping the future of digital video entertainment. Amazon and MX Player recently joined forces to accelerate premium free entertainment for 250 million users in India. With this acquisition, Amazon merged two of India’s most popular free AVOD (or ad‑supported video on demand) services – MX Player and Amazon miniTV – into one service, Amazon MX Player. Amazon MX Player is Amazon India’s big bet in terms of shaping the future of the free AVOD landscape in India.

We seek engineers who can help us shape and develop Amazon MX Player, our free ad‑supported video streaming service. This is an exciting opportunity for a rock‑star engineer who wants to work in a start‑up like environment and is passionate about digital media and new customer experiences.

This is a unique opportunity to work with some of the best engineers at Amazon and one of the best teams in the company, be part of a new initiative from scratch which is going to become a huge area of growth for Amazon's Advertising business and pioneer the usage of new technology at Amazon scale.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop best‑in‑class video discovery and viewing experience across mobile & living room devices, building highly available and scalable applications that power a great entertainment experience.
  • Work on Amazon MX Player applications on iOS‑based mobile app.
  • Bring expertise in distributed computing, scalable architecture, UX design, performance, and metrics reporting to help our fast‑paced business grow and evolve.
  • Serve as the technical lead to mentor a team of engineers on mobile engineering best practices while delivering the next generation of experiences on Amazon MX Player apps, working closely with product teams to refine the scope of incoming projects and ensure deliverables meet a high quality bar.

A day in the life

  • Hands‑on development, submitting and reviewing code to set the coding standards bar for our team.
  • Design and review architectural and software design documents to raise the engineering bar for the team.
  • Deep dive and provide technical guidance on specific topics such as video playback, application performance, and addressing security risks.
  • Participate in scrum meetings to unblock the team.
  • Provide input to our quarterly and yearly planning exercises.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
  • 3+ years of Video Games Industry experience (supporting title development, release, or Live Ops).
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
