The Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (Chief Human Resources Officer) at CU Denver is a strategic leader who partners with the university's executive team to develop and implement people-centered HR strategies. This role ensures HR practices reflect CU Denver’s commitment to equity, innovation, and impact, fostering a culture of trust, inclusion, and continuous learning. A key focus is employee advocacy, ensuring faculty and staff voices are heard and integrated into decision-making. The incumbent will oversee operational excellence in compensation, workforce planning, HR data analytics, and talent management in a hybrid work environment.

Working Title :
Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (Chief Human Resources Officer) What you will do : Strategic Partner and Change Agent : Guide leadership on workforce strategy, organizational development, culture, and change management. Develop and implement HR policies that support CU Denver’s strategic and inclusive goals. Oversee HR operations across the university, partnering with various units. Foster collaboration between CU Denver and other CU System campuses and partners. Employee Relations, Advocacy, & Engagement : Advocate for faculty and staff, promoting listening and respect. Collaborate with governance groups and affinity networks for inclusive decision-making. Provide leadership coaching to support team building, conflict resolution, and positive workplace culture. Ensure legal and policy compliance, promoting ethical standards and accountability. Talent Management & Workforce Planning : Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning. Support professional development and performance management. Promote work/life balance aligned with student success. Learning and Development : Develop leadership pathways and embed learning into the employee experience. Use data and feedback for continuous learning and culture-building. Compensation & Classification : Develop and oversee a fair compensation system aligned with system guidelines. Conduct salary benchmarking and internal equity reviews. Ensure compliance with wage laws and policies. HR Data & Analytics : Develop HR dashboards and analytics for strategic planning. Manage HR reporting and ensure data integrity. Partner with IT and research offices to improve data governance. Qualifications : Masters in HR, Business, Public Administration, or related field. 10+ years of progressive HR leadership, preferably in higher education. Expertise in HR operations and excellence. Experience managing HR in flexible work environments. Preferred Qualifications : HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR). Familiarity with higher education HR software (e.g., PeopleSoft). Experience with shared governance environments. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Strategic HR leadership aligned with institutional goals. Understanding of higher education governance. Organizational development and change management skills. Innovative leadership and strategic HR initiative alignment. Ability to manage budgets and collaborate effectively. Excellent communication skills and professionalism in sensitive situations. Conditions of Employment : This position is primarily in-person. Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements : Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Data synthesis and analysis capabilities. Teaching, training, and recommendation skills.
