About the opportunity The Payroll Specialist II is responsible for processing payroll and benefits for Japan-based clients within the APAC region. This role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with Japanese payroll regulations, while providing bilingual support in both English and Japanese.
What you'll get to do
Examine client(s)’ payroll advice for completeness, clarify with client(s) if in doubt, and upload data in the system for processing.
Check payroll reports against payroll advice and client’s checklist before sending to the client for verification.
Provide information for client/employee queries within the stipulated timeframe as indicated in the Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Process client’s statutory claims in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with Japan’s labor and tax regulations.
Participate in annual year-end tax reporting: generate tax forms for client’s employees and provide resolutions to any related queries.
Maintain proper filing and documentation for all relevant payroll materials (payroll advice, reports, correspondences, etc.) pertaining to Japan clients.
Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation for client(s) under the Specialist’s care.
Provide data on client’s monthly MIS report and advise Finance on headcount numbers for timely billing.
Skills and experience we value
2–3 years of experience in payroll outsourcing, preferably supporting Japan or other APAC countries.
Bilingual in Japanese and English (reading, writing, and speaking required).
In-depth understanding of payroll components, calculations, and compliance with Japanese labor laws and tax requirements.
Good knowledge of accounting and taxation related to salary income.
Strong analytical and logical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent customer service orientation and ability to manage competing priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Self-starter capable of working with minimal direction.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English.
