Executive Director Responsibilities

As an

Executive Director , you will report to the Assistant Vice President of Operations and be responsible for the day-to-day operations of your hospice location. The Executive Director oversees patient admissions to Hospice Services, arranges for ancillary services, and directs, supervises, and evaluates hospice personnel and volunteers. You will coordinate services for all team members at the multi-team site and maintain ongoing communication with leadership.

Promotes and monitors compliance with requirements and standards from accrediting and licensing agencies, regulatory bodies, and state or federal law.

Recommends and implements policies and procedures.

Manages Human Resources effectively.

Promotes positive communications and keeps employees informed of changes by conducting and documenting meetings with appropriate staff. Is available to employees when issues arise.

Provides for core orientation, location-specific orientation, in-service training, and continuing education for employees, volunteers, and contract personnel.

Responsible for selection, supervision, and evaluation of interdisciplinary team members.

Manages teams to goals and standards for performance; reviews progress and redirects efforts when goals are not met.

Assigns work fairly among employees and ensures workload balance.

Manages Office Operations effectively.

Plans and organizes tasks and resources to achieve strategic goals and objectives.

Ensures documentation of services is accurate and timely.

Monitors and supervises quality of patients’ care and handles emergency calls and requests for assistance.

May perform routine patient home visits or participate in on-call schedules (only if a Registered Nurse).

Collaborates with physicians, patients, families, staff and others to address problems, needs and concerns.

Supervises and evaluates family satisfaction surveys in collaboration with the Administrator.

Manages financial resources prudently and effectively; completes financial reviews with the Administrator; ensures annual expenditures stay within the budget. Prepares, monitors, and reviews monthly bills, supply costs, expense requests, mileage reimbursement, payroll and other expenses.

About You Education Registered Nurse with a minimum of Associate’s Degree in Nursing required.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Master’s degree in business, nursing, or related field preferred.

Experience Minimum one year management/supervisory experience required.

Two or more years’ experience in hospice/home care required (if also functioning as Clinical Nursing Supervisor for the office location). Other roles may include Clinical Director, Hospice Director, Director of Nursing (DON), RN Administrator, or Executive Director.

Three years’ experience in direct patient care in a clinical setting preferred.

Three to five years healthcare sales/management experience preferred.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registration Current license to practice nursing in the state of employment, if applicable.

CPR Certification.

Current automobile insurance and valid driver’s license.

Equipment/Tools/Work-Aids: Ability to operate computer, fax, copier and cell phone. Must have and maintain transportation for work.
