Job Description Salary: Georgia School Boards Association is seeking to fill the position of HR & Payroll Specialist. This position supports the CFO in Human Resources, Payroll, Risk Management, Internal Controls, and Compliance. The role manages daily HR tasks, ensures timely and accurate payroll, and promotes consistent practices across the organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain strict confidentiality of employee data and sensitive HR information Process full-cycle, multi-state payroll under the direction of the CFO Support compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws through accurate processing and recordkeeping Assist with HR administrative tasks, including benefits coordination and compliance documentation Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee records for HR and payroll functions Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes, including new employee orientations Serve as the first point of contact for routine HR and payroll questions Maintain the time-off management system and provide reports as needed Confirm timely payroll tax filings by ADP; maintain supporting records and manage state registrations via ADP SmartCompliance Prepare payroll-related reports and ad hoc HR data summaries Assist with policy updates and employee handbook revisions as directed Support internal control and risk management processes as assigned Perform other HR, payroll, or administrative tasks as assigned Participate in the Quality of Work-Life Committee to support workplace engagement initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate is professional, positive, people-oriented, highly organized, detail-focused, technologically proficient, and eager to learn.
Specific qualifications include:
Bachelors degree in human resources, accounting, or business administration Minimum three years of HR/payroll experience Experience processing payroll for multi-state employees Familiarity with HRIS, payroll, and time-off management platforms Working knowledge of payroll tax compliance and employment laws Strong oral and written communication skills Proficient with Microsoft Office applications Effective time management and problem-solving skills Willingness to pursue HR-related training or certifications to enhance support capabilities PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar certifications a plus
BENEFITS GSBA offers a comprehensive and competitive benefit package that includes: 10.5% of annual salary applied to an employer-sponsored tax-sheltered retirement plan (effective after first 90 days). Paid major medical and dental coverage (employee only) with paid HRA contribution of up to $1,500 per calendar year. The Association offers additional supplemental insurance. Employees are responsible for all supplemental insurance premiums. $25,000 life insurance (employee only). Ten (10) annual leave days per year (5/6 day per month) cumulative to 30 days. Fifteen (15) sick days per year (1 days per month) cumulative to 90 days. Three (3) personal days per year (July 1 to June 30) non-cumulative. Wholesale Club Membership Reimbursement for up to $50 per year for membership.
