Description Collects, labels, logs, and processes blood and other specimens; checks quality of samples and specimens; assembles supplies and equipment; and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Confirms all written orders on the requisition match specimen label.
Identifies any special instructions that have been written on the requisition and clarifies before performing venipuncture.
Ensures patient has been appropriately identified according to the laboratory SOP.
Ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers are selected for the appropriate test ordered.
Manages time appropriately while maintaining appropriate patient interaction and confidentiality.
Ensures CAP, and UMPA (when appropriate) guidelines are followed during a phlebotomy procedures.
Ensures all relevant SOPs are reviewed annually or when revised.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
Completion of an accredited program in phlebotomy (didactic training only)
Total Rewards The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position.Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
