Job Function Under guidance by the Manager, Corporate Taxes and Senior Tax Specialist, supports the department in the calculation and reporting of taxes in the financial statements of HEI and its subsidiaries, prepares and/or reviews documentation for proper periodic reporting of taxes, monitors legislation and rulings that impact tax compliance, and develops policies and procedures to reconcile financial and tax accounting.

Essential Functions Financial Reporting of Income Taxes

Prepares and/or reviews income tax provision work papers, evaluates deferred tax assets, maintains deferred tax inventories, reconciles tax accounts, and calculates tax cash flows.

Tax Compliance

Prepares and/or reviews federal, state, exempt organization, gross receipts, payroll, and miscellaneous tax returns, calculates taxes, and ensures timely payment.

Tax Audits

Responds to IRS, Department of Labor, and state tax authority information requests, gathers documentation, researches issues, supplements documentation, and drafts responses and legal arguments.

Tax Planning

Performs legal research on tax implications of transactions, evaluates tax and financial statement implications, develops tax planning strategies, and communicates findings via memos.

Regulatory Compliance

Assists in preparing testimony, exhibits, and other documentation for PUC regulatory proceedings and compiles tax information for regulatory agencies.

Basic Qualifications

In-depth knowledge of ASC 740, income taxes, and related interpretations.

Proficiency in preparing gross, payroll, excise, consolidated income tax returns, and informational returns.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Experience with OneSource income tax compliance system, OneSource Tax Provision system, and SAP.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong analytical and computational skills.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) highly desired.

Experience Requirements

5-7 years of accounting, finance, or legal experience; 3-5 years in corporate tax area or equivalent.

Experience in the utility industry highly desired.

Location Honolulu – Oahu

Hiring Range $92,600 to $115,600
