Overview

Hardware Engineering Co-Op at Evident Microscopy.

Join to apply for the Hardware Engineering Co-Op role at Evident Microscopy.

Our instruments provide revolutionary features in the NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) industry. The role centers on the design, prototyping, and testing of high-performance digital and analog hardware incorporating ARM processors, FPGAs, DACs, and ADCs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and schematic capture for digital and mixed-signal PCBs, focusing on high-speed signaling and noise mitigation.
  • Prototype, assemble, and test new hardware designs, including component-level debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Perform signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis on complex PCB designs involving Zynq Ultrascale+ MPSoC and high-speed data buses.
  • Integrate and validate hardware components, ensuring compliance with system specifications and robust operation.
  • Develop and maintain hardware verification plans and test fixtures to ensure the reliability and performance of new designs.
  • Collaborate with the firmware team to define hardware/software interfaces, memory maps, and boot sequences (e.g., U-Boot, embedded Linux).
  • Manage component selection and BOM to optimize for performance, cost, and supply chain availability.
  • Collaborate and communicate with coworkers in both hardware and software development.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and analog/digital circuit design.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB schematic capture and layout tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad, PADS).
  • Proficiency in using lab equipment for debug and validation (e.g., oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM).
  • Understanding of high-speed digital design concepts, transmission lines, and impedance matching.
  • Experience with ARM-based processors and/or FPGA architecture and interfacing.
  • Basic understanding of embedded system architectures and hardware/firmware interaction.
  • Understanding of electrical concepts and basic signal processing.
  • Ability to work onsite on Tuesday and Thursday.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with simulation tools for Signal Integrity (e.g., HyperLynx, SPICE).
  • FPGA development experience (VHDL/Verilog) for basic validation and interface control.
  • Knowledge of power supply design and regulation for complex digital systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing (e.g., temperature, vibration).
  • Electrical engineering knowledge/background (Degree).
  • 1-2 Prior internships.
