Overview

Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and improving processes and manufacturing capabilities to reduce product cost through operational efficiency. You will report to the Lead Mechanical Engineer and work to support manufacturing zones, quality, and new product introductions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support to the operational team where needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement in quality, cycle times, cost reduction, and process improvement through lean techniques and value engineering.
  • Eliminate routing and material variances impacting financial results.
  • Perform time studies for assembly processes to create correct routings and optimize balancing.
  • Define, set up, prepare, and optimize manufacturing tooling, including automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure value stream mapping, specification, and implementation of logistical flows for manufacturing cells.
  • Create and maintain documented work procedures and technical specifications for manufacturing equipment and test specs.
  • Perform active training processes, procedures, documentation, and traceability to build workforce competencies in manufacturing zones.
  • Collaborate with other departments and suppliers to support quality issues on components and products in the manufacturing zones.
  • Work with cross-functional engineers and technicians to support successful new product introductions and smooth design-to-production transitions.
  • Create, manage, and complete manufacturing-related Engineering Change Orders using ERP and CAD systems.
  • Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and willingness to learn; maintain punctual attendance and teamwork.
  • Provide routine communication to team members and leadership; take direction from supervisor as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Education level: Bachelor degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering preferred. Degree in sciences acceptable with supporting manufacturing or operations experience.
  • Relevant previous experience: Minimum 4 years in manufacturing, assembly, or operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience/knowledge of 6S and basic Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience with CREO CAD systems or equivalent 3D CAD software.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Programming skills (LabVIEW and PLC) preferred.
  • Interaction between manufacturing equipment and IT systems.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.

Other Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in project management and leading improvement projects.
  • Proven experience implementing Lean practices in an operations environment, including 6S, process flow improvements, fixturing, etc.

Note: The role may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, chemicals, and electrical hazards. The noise level is usually moderate. The job requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, typing, and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Vision requirements include close, color, distance, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Reasonable accommodations may be provided as needed.
