Position Summary
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management, and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting and customer communication activities daily, including labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower.
People management responsibilities include hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues and resolving problems. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager, the Supervisor supervises the receiving, warehousing and shipping of products in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives.
As part of the DSV team, Associates are expected to meet company objectives in the areas of performance, safety, and quality and to comply with all corporate and site-specific policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities, plan and assure continuous improvement.
- Effectively keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues that affect the operations.
- Develop systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products in a safe and profitable manner in accordance with company policies; manage operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals; comply with terms in the client operating agreement.
- Implement and report on-going cost savings measures; provide ideas for more efficient operations.
- Meet all client specified KPI’s and comply with Quality system requirements.
- Manage operations to achieve objectives; provide direction and support to HR; assist in hiring, training, and professional development; participate in performance evaluation processes.
- Overall training and evaluation responsibilities of warehouse staff.
- Plan daily work schedule by reviewing work orders and instructions; assign duties to warehouse staff based on priorities and resources.
- Review pending jobs or trends and plan for reorganization of warehouse space and staffing needs.
- Train new staff or delegate training responsibilities; assess progress of trainees.
- Monitor quantity and quality of jobs; provide guidance as necessary.
- Assign supervisory duties to experienced team members; keep manager advised of progress or problems daily.
- Hold regular meetings with warehouse staff to assess status and discuss improvements.
- Assist in physical operations as needed.
- Deliver results by leveraging the skills of the right people at the right time.
- Maintain motivation and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities; participate in annual performance reviews for team members.
- Support adherence to SOPs and train team members accordingly.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Education & Experience: Must have a High School diploma or GED; 3 years' experience in logistics/distribution; 1 year supervisory experience; preferred: MHE certification / knowledge of basic MHE operation.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Forklift training completion.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office; RF scanners; WMS.
- Language Skills: English (reading, writing, verbal); business communication.
- Mathematical Skills: Basic to intermediate level for quantities and inventory verification.
- Other Skills: Attention to detail; good organizational and communication skills; leadership and planning; ability to work flexible schedules; cross-training; adaptability; overtime as required; ability to work in varying warehouse temperatures.
