What is the Role?
Bring your passion for discovery to Coney Island Prep as our incoming High School Science Teacher. We welcome educators with interests in Living Environment, Chemistry, Earth Science, AP Environmental Science, Bioethics, or AP Biology. We are especially seeking teachers with experience teaching AP courses who can design college‑level experiences to prepare scholars for AP exams. Through our research‑based, standards‑aligned curriculum Teacher Created, you will engage scholars by fostering critical thinking, problem‑solving, and by guiding them to gather evidence to support ideas and decisions. Inspire scholars to connect classroom science with their lives through engaging experiments.
What You’ll Be Asked To Do
- Internalize standards‑aligned curriculum and content
- Teach academically rigorous and culturally relevant lessons, materials, and assessments, with differentiation as needed
- Communicate effectively with scholars, families, and staff
- Commit to implementing school‑wide systems, structures, and procedures
- Promote equitable access to resources, opportunities, support systems, and classrooms
- Analyze data to plan instruction and strengthen student outcomes
- Create a positive, structured, results‑oriented learning environment that supports students with varying abilities
- Participate in school community responsibilities and professional activities as assigned
What You’ll Need
- Passion for education and commitment to the school’s mission, anti‑racism, and values
- Belief that all students can achieve at high academic levels and deserve opportunities to succeed in college and career
- Bachelor’s degree and NYS teaching certification required; Master’s degree strongly preferred (the school offers $2,000 toward a Master’s degree and NY State certification within two years)
- Cultural competencies to work in diverse, low‑income communities and openness to examining beliefs and biases
- Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills; timeliness and accuracy; ability to meet deadlines
- Conflict resolution skills that are culturally responsive and age‑appropriate

- Positive, solution‑oriented attitude and collaborative team orientation
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with families, students, and staff with commitment to diversity and inclusivity
Who are we?
Coney Island Prep High School is a college preparatory, public charter high school in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn. Since its founding in 2013, CIPHS serves about 350 students in grades 9–12, with a strong record of college acceptances. The school offers AP courses, College and Career Readiness classes, and enrichment opportunities in a supportive, small‑school environment.

- Competitive salary range for lead teachers, $71,250–$97,750, with consideration of experience
