Job Summary:
The Human Resources Director leads and manages the organization’s HR strategy, policies, and practices to foster an employee-centered workplace culture. This role oversees all aspects of HR operations—including compensation and payroll, recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, compliance, leave management, wellness initiatives, and risk management. Serving as a trusted advisor to leadership, the HR Director ensures HR functions align with organizational goals and comply with all applicable laws.
The Human Resources Director will report to the CEO. This is a full-time position, hourly and non-exempt.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm
Pay: $95K per year

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises the Office Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and programs that support the organization’s mission, vision, culture, and values.
- Develop and implement team building initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Oversee audits, reporting, and recordkeeping (EEOC, OSHA, ACA, E-Verify, etc.) while maintaining accurate and secure personnel files.
- Manage the full employee life cycle: recruitment, onboarding, performance management, professional development, retention, and offboarding.
- Oversee payroll, benefits, and compensation to ensure competitive and equitable practices.
- Advise and partner with management on HR-related matters, including sensitive and confidential issues.
- Administer and track employee leave programs (FMLA, PTO, disability, military, etc.) in compliance with legal requirements.
- Lead workplace investigations and coordinate with legal counsel or external agencies when necessary.
- Monitor HR trends, legislation, and best practices to recommend proactive adjustments.
- Manage HR technology systems to streamline process and enhance employee experience.
- Other duties assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to pass a Level 2 FDLE background screen, drug screen, and local background screen upon initial hire and annually thereafter.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and eligibility for acceptance by the company’s insurance carrier.
- Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment law, including affirmative action and EEO compliance.
- Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and handle confidential matters with discretion.
- Professional demeanor with strong cultural sensitivity and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with all employees while complying with EEOC rules and accepting constructive feedback from management in a professional manner.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years or progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role, required.
- Nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred, with familiarity in compliance and nonprofit staffing challenges.
- Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCOP, PHR, or SPHR) is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in building HR systems, policies, and culture in mission-driving organizations.
