Hawkes is seeking a mid-level Support Engineer and Systems Administrator who will play a key role in managing and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our digital learning tools and tools to help our employees be successful. This position involves supporting cloud-based systems, implementing automation, ensuring system security, and providing reliable IT operations that help deliver an excellent experience to our students, educators, and staff.
Our ideal candidate is located in the Charleston, SC area and willing to travel occasionally to our Charleston warehouse for team meetings and shipping employee equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide first-level IT support through voice, email, and Slack; troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues for Windows and macOS users. Manage support tickets, document resolutions, and maintain a knowledge base of common issues. Support onboarding by setting up equipment and training new employees on IT systems and security practices. Configure and deploy Windows and Mac computers for new hires and replacements. Manage inventory of user equipment, including assignments, locations, and lifecycle tracking. Coordinate vendor repairs and ensure secure storage or recycling of unused hardware. Deploy OS and software updates using automation tools; ensure endpoint compliance with security policies. Manage user access and permissions via Active Directory and Azure Entra ID. Support backups, perform restores, and assist with infrastructure and escalated IT issues. Manage user accounts, licenses, and groups in Microsoft 365; ensure compliance with security and data retention policies. Support and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 apps, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. Resolve issues related to email, collaboration tools, and cloud storage. Requirements
4+ years in an IT support or systems administration role Hands-on experience with Windows and macOS configuration and troubleshooting Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and user management Familiarity with Active Directory, Azure Entra ID, and endpoint management tools Experience with backup systems and patch management processes Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple support requests efficiently Logical problem-solving and documentation skills Comfortable working independently and as part of a distributed team Fast learner with a passion for technology and continuous improvement Experience with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation Familiarity with remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS Automate system tasks using scripting language such as Powershell If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, we encourage you to apply.
