available. The Position The

Police Commander

will

oversee Department of Justice (DOJ) reform efforts for the Torrance Police Department, ensuring compliance with mandated changes, implementing policy improvements, and coordinating efforts to enhance transparency, accountability, and community trust .

The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, team player who plans, organizes, leads, supervises and participates in the development, implementation, and administration of the DOJ reform efforts. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work effectively with the Police Chief and Assistant Police Chief, Police Department personnel, City staff, and even community members as necessary, in the course of implementing DOJ reform efforts and recommendations. The candidate shall have a strong knowledge of law enforcement and police administration, court procedures, project management, and municipal budgeting process .

Salary Information $16,305 - $21,609 - $24,851 per month + Benefits (Min) - (Ref. Point) - (Max) Appointment to the position is made between the minimum and reference point, depending on quantifications.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Bachelor’s degree in administration of justice, criminology, public or business administration, political science, or closely related field.

Eight years of progressively responsible supervisory and administrative experience in a comparable sized police department, three years of which shall have been equivalent in type and level to at least that of Lieutenant in the City of Torrance.

License or Certificate Must possess and maintain the following:

A valid California Class C driver’s license. POST Advanced and Supervisory certificates. Interested candidates must submit an online application at
