The Telecom Lead will report to the IS Operations Manager and is responsible for implementing and maintaining a stable, secure, and efficient network infrastructure. The role ensures seamless connectivity and communication for all users in Alaska, with a focus on production operations and operations technology. This position involves collaboration with all departments to meet network requirements across various sites including Anchorage, Data Center, North Slope, winter field work, upcoming construction seasons, and the production facility. The Telecom Lead will work closely with Telecom engineering within the Development team to design and roll out permanent facilities, ensuring a smooth transition from engineering to operations. The Telecom Lead will develop a system performance monitoring process to diagnose and resolve network issues, optimize performance, and uphold security standards. The role also requires ensuring that Alaska infrastructure complies with relevant Management System, Operating Standards, and Core Business Processes, working collaboratively with the wider Alaska IT team to support business needs. Key Accountabilities
Network Accountability
Ensure a robust, functional, and efficient network infrastructure for the Alaska Business Unit. Manage a technical team to resolve regional Network incidents & requests promptly. Support high uptime operations for Alaska production activities. Monitor regional firewalls to minimize unauthorized access risks. Recommend infrastructure improvements aligned with Santos IS strategy. Perform site visits and ensure environmental functionality. Follow change management processes. Conduct network configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Manage switches, firewalls, controllers, and other network devices. Lead network upgrades and installations. Team Leadership
Manage technical team delivery effectively. Ensure team compliance with Operating Standards and Core Business Processes. Delegate tasks to ensure high delivery standards. Develop team members through training and projects. Track KPIs for team and network performance. Process & Procedure
Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and configurations. Ensure regional processes and procedures are aligned with SMS. Maintain project portfolios and seek continuous improvement. Enforce network security policies. Configure and deploy new network devices and systems. Qualifications & Skills
Formal Qualifications: Team lead experience in a large global company. Bachelor’s degree in computer science. Eligibility to work in the U.S. with completed Form I-9. CCNP Certification. Strong experience with Cisco switching/routing, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Wireless, 802.11x. Experience with SDN, ISE, DNA, project management. Technical Skills: Troubleshooting network and firewall issues. Experience with VMware, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, Windows Server 2012 & 2016, SCOM & SCCM. Ability to develop plans to meet business requirements. Leadership and stakeholder support skills. Ability to work in a global team, including after-hours and on-call support. Preferred Skills: Problem-solving and analytical skills. ITIL v3 or higher certification. Experience with PowerShell scripting, Active Directory, Azure, AWS, Service-Now, Office 365. Experience with database administration, MDM, Netscalers, firewall configuration, Appsense. Understanding of cybersecurity best practices. Experience: 7-10 years in a Corporate IT role, with 5+ years leading a team. Experience supporting end users remotely and on-site. Experience working with vendors and maintaining knowledge articles. Knowledge of network design principles and Cisco IOS/Palo Alto PANOS. Additional preference for experience in Oil & Gas environments.
